The Clash-London Calling (1979)

PART 2 OF MY SERIES ON OLD ALBUMS Honestly, there's not much that can be said about this album. It's genius. Everything has been said about it. I don't even know why I'm writing about it. It has been hailed as one of the most quintessential rock/punk albums of all time by every music critic from every walk of life, as an essential addition to any music aficionado's collection, the best album of all time, etc. etc.. I'm not questioning it, I'm just agreeing. This is another one of those album that I've grown up with and have loved unconditionally since I first heard it. This is another one of those album my parents "indoctrinated" me with when I was young. This is another one of those albums which is the soundtrack of some of my favorite memories. I can just imagine "Jimmy Jazz" coming out of the stereo as I blissfully sit in the backseat of my dad's car, with a childlike inability to understand anything. Faint memories of my dad singing along to "The Guns of Brixton" pepper my mind. For me, this isn't an epic punk or rock album. It's an epic childhood album. This album has always been the stable friend, the one that's always there and that is a fail-proof way to have a good time. The Clash have always been my go-to if I just want some sweet tunes. I never get bored, in fact I think it's impossible to get bored of this album, and I never will. It's something that, like few things in life, has stuck with me since I first heard it. For me, this isn't an early representation of the music that would develop over the next years because it inspired many great musician. It's an album that has inspired me. I will always refer back to it. It will always sit on my shelf. It will always be on my iPod. From the sweet, sweet riffs of the famous title track "London Calling" to the motown-inspired "Train in Vain", London Calling has always called my name, and I have always responded.
10/10
