Capt (Retd) Sher Bahadur Gurung

Captain (Retired) Sherbahadur Gurung was born on 30 September 1968 in Hansapur GBS Word No 9 Sungure, Gorkha West Nepal. He was enlisted into Brigade of Gurkhas on 30 January 1987 at the British Gorkha Pokhara. On completion of his basic recruit training in Hong Kong, He joined C company of 6th Queen Elizabeth?s Own Gurkha Rifles at the Churchcrookham in United Kingdom. During the time of amalgamation in 1994, he was transferred to 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifle (1 RGR) in Brunei. On promotion to Sergeant in 1999, he assumed the appointment of Manoeuvre Support Section Commander in C Company and later posted to the training wing in Headquarter Company (HQ Coy) as an instructor. He was promoted to Colour Sergeant in 2001 and took over the post of Company Quarter Master Sergeant (CQMS) in the C Company and subsequently held the appointment of Company Sergeant Major (CSM) in 2003. On completion of the Mortar Officers/2IC course in Warminster in August 2006, he was commissioned to Lieutenant (Queens Gurkha Officers) and posted to Infantry Battle School Brecon and assumed the post of Mortar Officer in Gurkha (Mandalay) Company. In October 2007 he was promoted to Captain and transferred his commission to Short Service Commission Late Entry (SSC - LE). In December 2009 he took over the post of Company Second in Command (2IC) in the Head Quarter (Burma) company in Shorncliff barrack. Having successfully completed the 2 years tour in HQ (Burma) Company in 1RGR, he then got posted back to the Infantry Battle School Brecon and assumed the post of Company Second in Command for Gurkha (Mandalay)company on 13 January 2012. He completed 27 years and 4 days of exemplary service and retired from Infantry Battle School Brecon in February 2014. During his Army career, he has served in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Belize, Mexico, Honduras, Australia, Malaysia, Korea, Brunei, France, Kosovo, Oman, Bosnia, Kenya, Canada, Ivory Coast and Afghanistan. He is happily married to Ganga Kumari Gurung from Budhasing and have a Daughter Soniya and a Son Sonam Gurung. He enjoyed almost every sport but due to the current age factors, still enjoys swimming & dabbling Golf.
